I don't use hand tools often, but everything I've ordered from Lie-Nielsen has been in tip top shape and better than advertised. Whatever you expect and have heard from them, crank it up to 11 and that's what you'll receive.

Their customer service is always knowledgeable and helpful, shipping has always arrived well before the stated date and has only taken 2 days, they quoted me a 2-4 week restock time on a back order item and mine shipped out in just a week.

My ONLY disappointment is that they discontinued the dovetail box you get with the #51. I understand that it's not economically feasible to ship every #51 with one since the box is expensive to make and they need to increase production, but I really would have loved the option to purchase one or would have paid the extra money to receive it. I don't think people paying that amount for a hand plane would have an issue with it, in fact that subgroup of people are most likely a portion of woodworkers who understand the time and money it takes to create.

I am fully retired now after a 41 year military/government career and finally have time to devote to my woodworking passion. As a retiree, money is in limited supply. So, when I buy a new tool I want it to be the best for my money. That is why I won’t buy anything but Lie-Nielsen tools. I know when I buy a tool from LN it is the best quality and they will stand behind their product 100%.

Their tools are the best. You knew that. But is there a reason to stop at the showroom instead of just ordering your tools? Yes, there could be. I had a specific need, and the gentleman/woodworker inside was able to direct me to the correct tool and accessories to fill my need. Fun and great to work with. Love'm!
